Why is wet canned food recommended for cats & dry kibble for dogs?

I have mostly been a cat owner and have learned that canned food is highly recommended for them so I always feed canned evey day. But 2weeks a go I got a dachshund (weenie dog) puppy and am surprised to learn that just the oppisit is recommened for dogs?. So i guess what im tring to ask is does anyone know why? I will also post this in the dog section in hopes to get more info. Thanks to anyone that can help.
